Gaza aid ship in Israeli stand-off
The Libyan aid ship, the Amalthea, originally bound for the Gaza strip, has been diverted to a port in Egypt after the Israeli navy warned the vessel against trying to break an Israeli blockade on the Palestinian coastal territory, and is now moving very slowly towards El Arish port.
An Al Jazeera reporter on board said the vessel, carrying 2,000 tonnes of food and medicine, was met by a "wall" of Israeli gunships as it approached the Palestinian territory.
Sherine Tadros reports.

Nine Turkish activists killed in an Israeli raid on a Gaza-bound aid ship were shot a total of 30 times and five died of gunshot wounds to the head, Britain's Guardian newspaper has reported.
Autopsy results showed the men were hit mostly with 9mm bullets, many fired at close range, the Guardian said, quoting Yalcin Buyuk, vice-chairman of the Turkish council of forensic medicine which carried out the autopsies on Friday.
Al Jazeera's Anita McNaught managed to speak to some of the injured activists, who are recovering in Ankara Hospital.

Six years ago Israeli commandos attacked an aid ship enroute to Gaza
May 31st 2010, heavily armed Israeli commandos attacked a Turkish humanitarian aid vessel in international waters. The vessel, Mavi Marmara, was one of 6 ships that set out as a flotilla to deliver aid to Palestinians in Gaza. According to a UN report, “Nine passengers lost their lives and many others were wounded as a result of the use of force during the take-over operation by Israeli forces.” Israel has not had settlements or military forces in Gaza since 2005. Yet it still asserts control over Gaza’s airspace and coastline. On that day, 700 unarmed peace activists were on board the boat. Including writers, journalists, women and children

Nilufer Cetin
Activist on MV Mavi Marmara
Activists on board were transported to detention centres in Israel until they were deported
Israel’s use of violence was condemned by Europe, the United States, Turkey & Gaza
Turkey's then prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel of “state terrorism” and demanded an apology
“It is not possible for an aggressive state that has openly conducted a massacre to face the international community without an expression of regret and answering for its deeds.”
Recep Tayyip Erdogan
An independent UN panel concluded in 2011 Israel’s interception of the vessels was “excessive and unreasonable”
In 2013, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologised to the Turkish people “for any error that could have led to loss of life.”
